Countermeasure Table

• The Countermeasure Table in Astah System Safety is designed to document countermeasures for scenarios identified during STPA analysis.
• It ensures that the countermeasures for specific scenarios are consistent and do not contradict the overall system design.
  

Creating a Countermeasure Table

To create a Countermeasure Table, navigate to [Diagram] → [STAMP/STPA] → [Countermeasure Table].

Alternatively, double-click [Countermeasure Table] in the [STPA Procedure] tab.

The table opens, listing the hazard causal factors and the associated unsafe control actions identified in the STPA analysis.

Defining Countermeasures

Now you can define the countermeasures to take against each hazard causal factor. Right-click the countermeasure field and click [Add Countermeasure].

When you add a countermeasure, Astah assigns it an ID automatically.

The same countermeasure can apply to more than one hazard causal factor. In that case, select [Add Existing Countermeasure] to choose one you have already defined.

A list of the countermeasures you have defined appears. Choose one from the list.

Specifying Target Components

In the Countermeasure Table, you can specify the target components to consider for each countermeasure.

Double-click the Components field. The [Edit Target Component] window opens with a list of all the components in the project. Select the target components and click [OK].

The [Edit Target Component] window opens only after you have defined the countermeasure.

Export to Excel

When the Countermeasure Table is complete, you can export it to Excel by clicking the icon at the top right of the table.

To export all the tables you created in the STPA analysis at once, go to [File] – [Export] – [STAMP/STPA Tables to Excel].

To export Control Structure Diagrams and Control Loop Diagrams as PNG, JPEG, EMF or SVG files, use the [File] – [Export Image] menu.

To export all the diagrams and tables, or only the ones you choose, as image files, select [Multi Diagrams].
